New leaf had a nice hold on that of Solarclan territory in the form of fully bloomed flowers, scurrying prey and the sweetest of sunshiney days. Not too hot but also not cold enough to think that winter had another day or two to pack up its' things. The tall grass of the meadow shifted and swayed with the movement of paws. A long tail brushing the tops of the flowers idly as they passed by, blue eyes solemn as silence lapsed between a pair of cats. One tall, with long golden fur while the other was shorter with a chocolate ticked coat.
There was a snort from as tall tomcat as a pair moved over a hilly flower patch of tulips, "You're always so suspicious of me," The taller of the two stated rather offended, "You act like I can't ever be nice to you or something," That and he had been instructed by Inkylotus to find some water lillies and hopefully hoarsetail. Also some herb that makes milk happen or something but the name of it escaped Goldenfang, even though he had been told only moments before. Goldenfang just didn't want to have to carrying everything back to camp on his own, and besides why not ask Lilypaw on a nice walk through the flowers? Who didn't enjoy that? Then again, it wasn't like it was an everyday thing of him asking her to come along or anything. He honestly couldn't stand her most of the time, but for Frogpaw and Solarclans' benefit, he'd play nice at least for a little while.

| [smear:#e6df19]LILYPAW[/smear:#eeb600:0] [smear:#e6a619]I just need growth[/smear:#e5e619:0] This was weird. It had been weird ever since that day he had caught her and- Her whiskers would twitch as she banished the thoughts of HIM from her mind. The scars he and his friends had gifted her seemed to echo with a phantom pain as she walked beside the golden tom, hazel eyes looking straight ahead. She truthfully had no idea why Goldenfang had asked her to join him when there were plenty of other warriors to drag along, but she was also a smidge happy that he had included her. Her recovery had been so long, and most cats treated her as if she would break at any moment, but Golden was the first to treat her like normal, despite also being the only one who knew the whole truth of what had happened. His words finally registers in her brain and it was her turn to snort, her muzzle scrunching as she did so and she looked sideways at him. He, like Frogpaw, was so much taller than her that she had to actually tilt her head up to see his face, "You can. You just never have before." Her tone was sarcastic and light, a smirk of her usual playful nature melting onto her lips as she lashed her tail, "Do you even know what these plants we're looking for look like, Goldenfang?" His name slipped past her maw in a dragged-out fashion. It irritated her that he had been named a warrior before herself, but perhaps this meant that she and Frogpaw would be named together. Goldenfang gave an offended mock gasp, "That is not true, I too have been nice to before," He stated back to her rather matter-o-factly, and shook his head lightly with a smirk playing on his white-dashed muzzle. The young warrior though had noticed something about Lilypaw. Something had been different but what it was he couldn't place his paw on. Like it was there at the tip of his tongue, but neither of them wanted to either acknowledge it or talk about it. Like an unspoken rule, or some sort of bizzare respect, laid between them. The tom twitched a poitned ear at the she-cat slightly before narrowing his gaze.
Of course he knew what the looked like! Inkylotus had explained them to him in great detail, but when she asked about it- he found his mind blanking almost. Inkylotus was blind. Did he even know what the look like! The golden tomcat gave a low growl in annoyance in his realization, "I know theyre mainly flowers, and that should be easy cause- theres only so many types of flowers," He stated firmly as if that explained everything. Not that he had no idea what the looked like, but what they felt and smelt like. That was beyond helpful to them as they weren't blind like their medicine cat, but that was besides the point.
Goldenfang then glanced at Lilypaw beside him out of the corner of his eye, and then gave her a small nudge with his muzzle, "You're healing rather well," He commented to her softly, as if testing the ice to see if he would plummet below its surface or not.

Lilypaw would stop in her walking and look around at the large flower field that they were currently walking in, "That narrows it down then." Her whiskers twitched with amusement. Admittedly she should have asked Inkylotus herself before they left, but she had trusted that the warrior knew what he was looking for. Oh well, nothing to do now but to look and bring back something, that was better than nothing anyway. The nudge of his muzzle was yet another surprise, and as she turned to face him, his question made her frame go stiff. Once again her scars would throb with phantom pain and she blinked her hazel gaze for a moment before placing a smile on her maw and tilted her head, "Y-yea, Inkylotus did a good job I think." She would turn quickly as if to show that she was, in fact, no longer injured; not on the surface at least. "You can barely even see the scars." She would flash her companion a confident smile and then turn quickly away to keep walking, "SO, what's the first flower we're looking for?" The minor stiffness to her frame was not unnoticed by the long furred tomcat, and her words seemed dismissive. They hadn't talked about that night since it happened and it felt like yesterday that they had found her laying by the pond. Goldenfang wanted to rub it in her face, state that he knew Mada was a bad cat to be around with, but there was something that kept the words at bay. Something soft that didn't want to make the situation worse for her, but he couldn't wipe that night from his mind. That and his desire to see the life drain from those smug blue eyes of Madas' as well.
Lilypaw had changed that night, and he wasn't sure if he liked it or not.
Then she shifted the topic of conversation back to the flowers they where suppose to be collecting, "Uhm I believe marigolds, horsetail and water lillies," he responded more tersely than he intended it to sound. Goldenfang wasn't one to avoid conversations, especially when it involved a friend of his like Lilypaw. The young warrior flicked the tip of his golden tail back and forth for a moment before trotting ahead of her with a shake of his head in annoyance. Why couldn't she just talk to him? Sure they never got along per se, but he still gave an inkling of care.

| [smear:#e6df19]LILYPAW[/smear:#eeb600:0] [smear:#e6a619]I just need growth[/smear:#e5e619:0] Lilypaw would seem to relax a bit as he listed off the herbs they were supposed to find. She at least knew what they looked like and that should make it easier. She changed direction to head towards where the lake and Eventideclan met, confident that at least the water lilies would be there. Lily was also trying her best to ignore the curtness in her companion's voice at her subject change. Did she want to talk about what happened? No, not if it meant having to listen to him rub mouse bile into her mental and emotional moons with ' i told you so's'. She looked back over her shoulder for a heartbeat, almost feeling bad for shutting him out the way she had, almost. Instead of dwelling on it, she would smirk instead and meow, "How's warrior life treating you, anyway? Is it exactly like you thought it would be?" Silently she hoped it was. One of them had to have a good life, right? If it couldn't be her then she was going to do everything she could to ensure Frogpaw and Goldenfang were happy. Her smirk would only grow as she snickered and lashed her tail in a challenge, "Any pretty she-cats catch your eye yet?" [smear:#e2f330]Female - 10 Moons - apprentice[/smear:#e6ae19:0] - speech |

Goldenfang was more than apt to letting silence lapse over them, to do the rest of their patrol in the quiet of their minds, but she spoke up. She smirked at him and offered up the question of what it was like being a warrior. There was a strong force to be honest with her, to tell her it sucked cause he felt so alone in the world. He was too young to befriend the older warriors, and his friends were still apprentices', so he was kind of in the middle of things. Though why would he tell her that? Why would he be open with her when she shut him out so easily?
The golden tabbys' lips twitched as if to snarl or something, but instead he pushed past her to continue on the way through the territory. Though he had no idea where she was heading anyway but he didn't want to stick around to find out, "Its fine, its like nothings changed other than my freedoms," He muttered and flinched inwardly to himself. That was a bit too close to the truth and he flicked back his ears in distaste at his own stupid, naive openness.
Lilypaw then would snicker and lash her tail as she challenged him with if any pretty she-cats caught his eye. Goldenfang glanced at her, pausing in his more angry steps for a moment as something passed behind those blue eyes. It was unreadable, darker than usual and he turned his head away, "No, no one of interest," He responded back rather tartly. The only cats he really set himself with was Lilypaw and Frogpaw. They where all that he had in terms of friendships or anything like that, and he didn't think there would be any cat that would top them. Goldenfang wasn't a friendly being after all, and even then to his friends he was mean.
Though suppose what he said was a lie.
What else could he do though? Be honest about it all? Why offer honesty to anything when he was only shut out? Goldenfang continued on their way to the lake and looked out at the water as it reflected the warm sunlight from above. The golden warrior lifted his head to twitch his nose as the scent of Eventide filled his nose, and then the sand send a flash back into his mind. Lilypaw chatting quietly to dark tabby fur, smug blue eyes and a wicked grin. Mada.
Goldenfang swallowed thickly and looked to the chocolate she-cat, "What about you? Finally gonna tell Frogpaw how you feel?" It was teasing in the toms' more deadpanned tone of voice, and he flicked his long furred tail behind him for a moment.

| [smear:#e6df19]LILYPAW[/smear:#eeb600:0] [smear:#e6a619]I just need growth[/smear:#e5e619:0] Irritation would itch beneath Lilypaw's fur at her companion's responses, but really what had she expected? Goldengfang had always been like this, friend or not he was constantly prickly and would instead snap at her than talk like normal. It was different from how she was with Frogpaw; she didn't know how she felt about it. He would look at her when she asked about pretty she-cats and something about the look made her feel bad for asking. But why? It wasn't meant to be an offensive question and yet he glared at her as if she should already know. She would huff in further annoyance as she followed him now towards the lake, but as they reached it, his own question caught her so off guard that she actually stumbled and had to quickly right herself, praying Goldenfang hadn't noticed. Her chest would tighten painfully and she had to fight back the urge to clench her teeth, instead placing a look of innocent confusion on her face as she tilted her head, "Frogpaw? I don't know what you're talking about. He's my best friend, and he already knows that." She wouldn't look at him though, her hazel eyes seeming to scan the lakeshore in search of the herbs they were supposed to be gathering. On the inside, she was a storm, anger and self-loathing swirling inside her at just the thought of the black and white tom. He had been her friend since kittenhood, they had done everything together, but she hadn't told him about Mada, and probably would never tell him the truth for fear that he would come to hate her if she did. Just like she would never tell the rest of the clan the truth either, not even Dipperstar. Especially not Dipperstar. A flick of her tail would be an outward gesture of shooing the dooming thoughts away before meowing cheerfully, "Now, give me that list of herbs we're supposed to grab again. I don't wanna be here when a patrol arrives and tries to cause trouble." [smear:#e2f330]Female - 10 Moons - apprentice[/smear:#e6ae19:0] - speech |

There was a raised brow at her answer to his question about Frogpaw, but then the tom simply talked past her with an eyeroll and a shake of his head. Right, a friend. Only ever a friend. A likely story from someone who seemed to only ever be an annoyingly cheerful cat. He didn't get it, his beef with Lilypaw. It was like one day during their ceremony or kithood that he decided she was his rival. That she was the thorn in his side, the other side of his coin, and someone he wouldn't exchange for the world. The though caught him off guard and he froze with a paw mid-air, before growling to himself about being stupid or some other unsaviory words. Goldenfang glanced back at her with those pearlecent blue eyes of his and lifted his head a bit defiantly, "Marigolds, horsetail and water lillies," He responded to her question with much less fuss than before.
The golden tabby tomcat moved across the sandy ground that lined the pond, and he looked up at the sky for a moment. There was a little blue in the air with some streaks of pinks or oranges that littered the sky as the sun started to make its decent beyond the mountains. The pond wasn't large by any means and lined the border between Eventideclan and Solarclan. It had tall grass around it with different purple flowers or dandelions around it, and it seemed rather- peaceful almost. Goldenfangs' shoulders seemed to be droop slightly in a relaxed motion, very rare for the otherwise on-edge cat, and he looked at the water solemnly.
"Do you remember when Wheatclaw would bring us out here?" Goldenfang almsot spoke so softly that it was like he didn't talk at all. Wheatclaw had been Goldenfangs' father, he passed a few months after the war due to infection of the shoulder. Wheatclaw had been a rather stern and tough lover type of character, but yet he always went out of his way to make Lilypaw feel like part of the family. To spend time with Goldenfang and his siblings, and it felt like that was eons ago now. Goldenfang never really talked about his family to anyone, and when he did it was vague and out of the blue. Like it was some stone he had to toss away to lighten the load a little bit every now and then.
Goldenfang came from an unfortunate set of circumstances. A mother who was frail and weak already upon being pregnant due to some sickness that no herb could treat, taking her own life due to death berries shortly after the kits were born. Cardinalflare was a troubled cat, but she loved hard and she had a strong love for Wheatclaw- a noble warrior. Goldenfang never met his mother, he was barely a few days ago by the time she passed away, and he was an unlucky survivor of the litter. His siblings seeming to just pass away in their sleep, one by one to no real understandable reason. The medicine cat at the time called it 'sudden kit death syndrome' but how could it happen to four kits? It was something he'd never understand and he remebered the days they woke up and a sibling was just- gone.
First it had been Frecklekit, then Sunkit, then Lionkit and lastly Tawnykit. None of them lived to see their apprentice ceremony, and Goldenfang was the only one that seemed strong enough to not succuomb to this syndrome. He grew up while his siblings remained only four months old. Goldenfang seemed to tighten up his shoulders and become rigid once more, though there was a sadden shadow to those bright blue hues of his as he turned to Lilypaw, "Herbs right?"

| [smear:#e6df19]LILYPAW[/smear:#eeb600:0] [smear:#e6a619]I just need growth[/smear:#e5e619:0] Lilypaw would turn her head to watch him, confusion etching deeper into her chest at his reactions, freezing, and then growling before continuing. What the hell was all that? Lilypaw would roll her eyes and huff before shaking herself out as if that would get rid of any last weird feelings and then nodded with a new sense of determination as Goldenfang listed off the herbs they needed. Seemed simple enough. She trotted her way towards the pond, sniffing around and letting the crisp air and pretty sky overhead relax her shoulders. Stealing a peek at the golden-furred tom with her, she would smile softly seeing him finally relax too. Good, this was what they both needed, just some peace after the chaotic moon they both had. She would spot some water lilies and be stepping towards them, shivering as the cold water soaked her legs and belly when Goldenfang would speak again. Wheatclaw, his father. Lilypaw would stop in her walking and look at Goldenfang openly now, the look on her face not holding pity but a gentle sympathy and grief of her own. "I do. I'll never forget those days." Her words rang with a strange intense truth to them, as if she were making a promise rather than confirming a memory. Wheatclaw had been an amazing warrior, a great friend to her parents after his mate passed. Her mama would tell her that the poor tom needed family more than ever after all the loss and as such her parents made sure Lilypaw and her older sisters were always kind to him and his Goldenkit. It was really the reason why they were even friends now, because their families had been close, and it was on the rare day that Lilypaw did feel lucky for it. Where would she be after Mada if Frogpaw and Goldenfang had not been with her to piece her back together? She refused to think about it, choosing instead to simply be grateful for them; no matter how much Golden poked his claws into her nerves. He seemed to shake himself out of his own thoughts, and she would take note by turning back to the water lilies and hurrying to grab them before trotting back to shore, shaking her fur out to sprinkle him with water before dropping the plants and smirking in her usual friendly yet smug manner, "One down, two more to go! I'm winning so far." [smear:#e2f330]Female - 10 Moons - apprentice[/smear:#e6ae19:0] - speech |
